David Michelsen is the Executive Director for the 30 mgd South Essex Sewerage District Treatment Facility in Salem, MA. He is responsible for planning and capital programs as well as operations, maintenance, and administrative support for the District. He previously worked for more than 15 years at a consulting firm and an equipment manufacturer, where he was involved in the planning, design, construction, and optimization of water and wastewater treatment facilities across New England. He has a Bachelors of Science in Engineering from Tufts University and a Masters of Science in Environmental Engineering from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. Mr. Michelsen is a Professional Engineer in Massachusetts and New Hampshire and is an active member of NEWEA as vice chair of the Energy Committee and is active in NEWWA, where he was awarded the 2014 NEWWA Award of Merit.
